The disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!
from men by Your hand, O Lord, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their belly with Your treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants.
Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them on the day of the Lord’s wrath. But the whole earth will be consumed by the fire of His jealousy, for He will make a sudden end of all those who dwell on the earth.
They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, “What is this? What new teaching is this? With authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”
“Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek Me. And as I said to the Jews, so now I tell you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’
Command those who are rich in this world that they not be conceited, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who richly gives us all things to enjoy.
My little children, I am writing these things to you, so that you do not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous One.
For you say, ‘I am rich, and have stored up goods, and have need of nothing,’ yet do not realize that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.
