How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed by terrors!

For it is a day of trouble and of treading down and of perplexity by the Lord God of Hosts in the Valley of Vision, a breaking down of the walls and a crying to the mountains.

The best among them is like a brier, the most upright among them a bramble; the day of your watchmen, of your punishment, has come; now their confusion is at hand.

Now when John had heard in prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,

“There will be signs in the sun and the moon and the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring;

When he learned that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

In the fifteenth year of the reign of Caesar Tiberius, Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip was tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Traconitis, and Lysanias was the tetrarch of Abilene.

They answered, “John the Baptist. But some say Elijah. And others say that one of the old prophets has risen.”
