They answered, “John the Baptist. But some say Elijah. And others say that one of the old prophets has risen.”
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreaded day of the Lord.
and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead. And therefore mighty works are at work in him.”
In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
King Herod heard of Him, for His name was spread publicly. He said, “John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, and therefore these miracles are at work in him.”
But others said, “He is Elijah.” And yet others said, “He is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
As He was alone praying, His disciples were with Him. And He asked them, “Who do the people say that I am?”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”
They asked him, “Who then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”
They asked him, “Why do you baptize then, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
Therefore when they heard these words, many of the people said, “Truly, this is the Prophet.”
Then they said to the blind man again, “What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”
