Thus says the Lord: Where is the certificate of divorce by which I sent your mother away? Or to which of My creditors did I sell you? Behold, for your iniquities you were sold, and for your transgressions your mother was sent away.

The Lord said to me: Backsliding Israel has proved herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.

“Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered against the Lord, in the company of Korah, but died in his own sin and had no sons.

“But that same servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe.’

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

But He answered them, “You give them something to eat.” They said to Him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?”

And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

But he who unknowingly committed acts worthy of punishment shall be beaten with few stripes. For to whom much is given, of him much shall be required. And from him to whom much was entrusted, much will be asked.

Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse offenders than all men living in Jerusalem?

Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” He said, “Teacher, say it.”

Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little.”

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,

But the law entered, so that sin might increase, but where sin increased, grace abounded much more,
