He released to them the man who was thrown in prison for insurrection and murder, whom they asked for. But he sentenced Jesus according to their will.
The king said to Haman, “The silver has been granted to you, as have the people, so do with each as it pleases you.”
Then he released Barabbas to them. But when he had scourged Jesus, he handed Him over to be crucified.
So Pilate, resolving to satisfy the people, released Barabbas to them. And when he had scourged Jesus, he handed Him over to be crucified.
And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this Man perverting our nation, and forbidding us to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ a King.”
So Pilate gave the sentence as they demanded.
As they led Him away, they seized Simon of Cyrene, who was coming from the country, and they laid the cross on him to carry it behind Jesus.
But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to here.”
They all shouted again, “Not this Man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.
Then he handed Him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away.
You denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,
And now behold the king whom you have chosen and for whom you have asked! Behold, the Lord has set a king over you.
