So Pilate gave the sentence as they demanded.
You must not follow the masses to do evil, and do not testify in a dispute that agrees with the crowd to pervert justice.

He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the just, both are abominations to the Lord.

But they insisted with loud voices, asking that He be crucified. And the voices of these men and of the chief priests prevailed.
He released to them the man who was thrown in prison for insurrection and murder, whom they asked for. But he sentenced Jesus according to their will.
