Then the Lord said to Moses: Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them: None shall make himself unclean for the dead among his people,

They shall not go to a dead person to defile themselves. But for father, or for mother, or for son, or for daughter, for brother, or for sister that has had no husband, they may defile themselves.

Hear this, O priests! Pay attention, O house of Israel! Listen, O house of the king! For the judgment is for you, because you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread over Tabor,

You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the Lord.

nor shall he approach any dead body, nor make himself unclean, even for his father or his mother;

And now, O priests, this commandment is for you.

And you will know that I have sent this command to you, that My covenant with Levi may remain, says the Lord of Hosts.

He that touches the dead body of any man will be unclean seven days.

This is the law, when a man dies in a tent. Each person who comes into the tent and all that is in the tent will be unclean seven days.

Whoever in the field touches one who is slain with a sword, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave will be unclean seven days.

Command the Israelites that they put out of the camp every leper, and everyone who has a discharge, and whoever is defiled by the dead.

All the days that he separates himself to the Lord he will not approach a dead body.
