Then he returned the eleven hundred silver coins to his mother. His mother said, “I certainly consecrated the silver to the Lord, for my son to make a carved idol and a metal idol, so now I return it to you.”

And the carved image of a statue that he made he set in the house of God, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house and in Jerusalem where I have chosen from among all the tribes of Israel, there I have set My name perpetually.

You shall not make gods of silver alongside Me or make gods of gold for yourselves.

You shall not make for yourself any graven idol, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water below the earth.

You shall make no molded gods for yourselves.

You shall defile also your graven images overlaid with silver, and your molded images ornamented with gold. You shall scatter them as an impure thing, and say to them, “Be gone!”

He who kills a bull is as if he kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as if he breaks a dog’s neck; he who offers a grain offering, as if he offers swine’s blood; he who burns incense, as if he blesses an idol. They have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations;

But they are altogether unthinking and foolish; the wooden idol is worthless instruction.

Do not turn to idols, nor make for yourselves cast metal gods: I am the Lord your God.

They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he is offering a service to God.

And you shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their Asherah poles with fire, and you shall cut down the engraved images of their gods, and eliminate their names out of that place.

“Cursed is the man who makes any graven or molded image, an abomination to the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place.” And all the people shall answer and say, “Amen.”

Then Micah said, “Now I know that the Lord will do good for me, for I have a Levite to be my priest.”

He said to his mother, “The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from you, on which you put a curse, even speaking the curse in my ears—behold, the silver with me. I took it.” Then his mother said, “May the Lord bless my son!”

When he returned the silver to his mother, she took two hundred shekels of silver and gave them to a silversmith to make a carved idol and a metal idol. And they were put in the house of Micah.

The Danites set up the carved idol for themselves. Jonathan the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the time of exile from the land.

They said to him, “Please ask God if we may know whether our mission will be a success as we go to do it.”
