Samson went and caught three hundred foxes. He took torches and turned the foxes tail to tail and put a torch between each pair of tails.

Then he said to his servants, “See, Joab’s field is next to mine, and he has barley there. Go, set it on fire.” So the servants of Absalom set the field on fire.

They shall fall by the sword; they shall be prey for jackals.

Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death,

Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, for our vineyards are in blossom.”

and say to him, Take heed, and be quiet. Do not fear or be fainthearted because of the two tails of these smoking firebrands, because of the fierce anger of Rezin with Aram and of the son of Remaliah,

because of Mount Zion, which is desolate, with foxes walking upon it.

Samson said to them, “This time I cannot be blamed by the Philistines when I do them harm.”

He set fire to the torches and sent the foxes into standing grain of the Philistines. He burned the harvested grain, standing grain, vineyards, and olive trees.
