Again Jephthah sent messengers to the Ammonite king,
I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war!
If it is possible, as much as it depends on you, live peaceably with all men.
Pursue peace with all men, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord,
Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.
The Ammonite king said to the messengers of Jephthah, “Because when Israel came up from Egypt, they took my land, from the Arnon to the Jabbok and as far as the Jordan. Now return it peacefully.”
and said to him, “Jephthah says this: Israel did not take the land of Moab, nor the Ammonite land;
