So Joshua summoned the twelve men he had appointed from among the Israelites, one man per tribe.

Then the Israelites did as Joshua commanded and picked up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, one for each of the tribes of the Israelites, as the Lord had spoken to Joshua. They crossed over with them to the settlement and set them there.

Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen. And he called its name Ebenezer saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
