Israel said to him, “Please go and see if it is well with your brothers and well with the flocks, and bring back word to me.” So he sent him out of the Valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
For the villages located by their fields, some of the people of Judah lived at Kiriath-arba and its villages, others at Dibon and its villages, or at Jekabzeel and its villages,
So Joshua took the whole land according to all that the Lord had said to Moses. Joshua gave it to Israel as an inheritance according to their allotted portions by their tribes. Then the land rested from war.
Therefore Hebron became an inheritance of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite until this day because he completely followed after the Lord, the God of Israel.
According to the word of the Lord to Joshua, Caleb son of Jephunneh was given an allotment among the tribe of Judah: Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron). Arba was the father of Anak.
“May all Your enemies perish like this, O Lord! But may those who love Him rise like the sun when it rises in full strength.” Then the land was at peace for forty years.
