His parents said this, because they feared the Jews. For the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed that He was the Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.

The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the Lord will be safe.

I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid of a man who shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made as grass,

Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is My law; do not fear the reproach of men nor be afraid of their revilings.

Of whom were you afraid or fearful when you lied and you did not remember Me, nor give Me a thought? Have I not held My peace for a long time so that you do not fear Me?

Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they separate you from their company and insult you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man.

Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”

They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he is offering a service to God.

After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away His body.

On the evening of that first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

Yet no one spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews.

But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind and received his sight, until they called the parents of the one who had received his sight.

But how he now sees, we do not know, or who opened his eyes, we do not know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself.”

They answered him, “You were completely born in sin. Are you teaching us?” And they threw him out.

Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when He found him, He said, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”

Then they called them and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.

No one else dared join them, but the people respected them.

They agreed with him. When they had called in the apostles, they beat them, and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the abominable, the murderers, the sexually immoral, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars shall have their portion in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone. This is the second death.”
