The sea was stirred up, because a strong wind was blowing.

For He commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea.

It is He who causes the mist to ascend from the ends of the earth, who makes lightning for the rain, and brings forth the wind from His treasuries.

But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was turbulent.

They got into a boat and went across the sea toward Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.

So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat. And they were afraid.
