Then He came to Simon Peter, and Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”

When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”

This is He who comes after me, who is preferred before me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”

After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was wrapped.

Jesus answered him, “You do not understand what I am doing now. But later you will understand.”
