All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. And he said, “For I will go down into the grave mourning for my son.” So his father wept for him.

It is better to go to a house of mourning for a funeral than to go to a house of feasting for a celebration; for this is the destiny of all humanity; and the living should consider this in their heart.

These two things have befallen you; who shall be mournful for you? Desolation, and destruction, and famine, and sword— how shall I comfort you?

For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears; for the comforter, who should relieve my soul, is far from me. My children are desolate for the enemy has prevailed.

She weeps sorely in the night, her tears are on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has none to comfort her. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they have become her enemies.

What can I say for you, to what shall I liken you, O daughter of Jerusalem? What shall I compare with you, that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For your devastation is great like the sea; who can heal you?

She had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to His teaching.

But one thing is needed. And Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken from her.”

Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”

Now a man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

When the Jews who were with Mary in the house, comforting her, saw that she quickly rose up and went out, they followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”

When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled.

Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him.”

Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary, and saw what Jesus had done, believed in Him.

His disciples said to Him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone You. Are You going there again?”

Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Therefore comfort one another with these words.

So comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, just as you are doing.

Then they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
