For from Jerusalem a remnant will go forth, and escapees from Mount Zion. “The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will do this.

As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him.

But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children,

For from Jerusalem shall go out a remnant, and those who escape out of Mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts shall do this.

The Lord shall go forth like a mighty man; He shall stir up zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, raise a war cry; He shall prevail against His enemies.

The sons of foreigners shall build up your walls, and their kings shall minister to you; for in My wrath I struck you, but in My favor I have had mercy on you.

Look down from heaven and see, from Your holy and glorious habitation. Where are Your zeal and Your strength? The stirrings of Your heart and Your mercies toward me are restrained.

In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the angel of His presence saved them; in His love and in His mercy He redeemed them; and He lifted them and carried them all the days of old.

Is Ephraim My dear son? Is he a pleasant child? For since I spoke against him, I still remember him; therefore My heart longs for him. I will surely have mercy on him, says the Lord.

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed; His compassions do not fail.

So the angel who spoke with me said, Cry out, saying: Thus says the Lord of Hosts: I have a great jealousy for Jerusalem and Zion.

Thus says the Lord of Hosts: I am exceedingly jealous for Zion, and with great wrath I am jealous for her.

So he arose and came to his father. “But while he was yet far away, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, and ran and embraced his neck and kissed him.

They made Him jealous with strange gods; with abominations they provoked Him to anger.

For the Lord will judge His people, and relent in regard to His servants, when He sees that their power is gone and there is no one left, whether restrained or free.

Rejoice, O you nations, with His people; for He will avenge the blood of His servants and will render vengeance on His adversaries and will be merciful to His land and people.

Behold, we consider them blessed who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the purpose of the Lord, that the Lord is very gracious and merciful.

They removed the foreign gods from among them and worshipped the Lord, and He could no longer endure the suffering of Israel.
