And why do You not pardon my transgression and take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust; and You will seek me diligently, but I will not be.”

Now the heart of David struck him after he had counted the people. David said to the Lord, “I have sinned greatly by what I have done. Now may the Lord take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have behaved very foolishly.”

If I have sinned, then You would watch me, and You would not acquit me from my iniquity.

Remember, I pray, that You have made me as the clay. And would You return me to dust?

Who is he who will plead with me? For now, if I hold my tongue, I will give up my breath.

But man dies and wastes away; yes, man gives up his breath, and where is he?

I have said to the pit, ‘You are my father’; to the worm, ‘You are my mother and my sister.’

He will fly away like a dream and will not be found; yes, he will be chased away as a vision of the night.

The rich man will lie down, but he will not be gathered; he opens his eyes, and he is not.

For now I would be lying down and would be at peace; I would have slept; then there would be rest for me,

‘I am clean, without transgression; I am innocent, nor is there iniquity in me.

The eye of him who sees me will behold me no more; your eyes will be on me, but I will be no more.

Then Bildad the Shuhite answered:

I am afraid of all my sorrows; I know that You will not hold me innocent.

As for man, his days are like grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes.

Yet he passed by, and behold, he was no more; though I sought him, he could not be found.

and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the life breath returns to God who gave it.

Your dead shall live, their corpses shall arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust, for your dew is as the dew of the dawn, and the earth shall give birth to the departed spirits.

Do not be wrathful beyond measure, O  Lord, nor remember iniquity forever. Behold, look upon us, we pray, for we all are Your people.

Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake—some to everlasting life, and others to everlasting shame and contempt.

Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to Him, “Take away all iniquity, and accept that which is good; and we will offer the fruit of our lips!

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for Himself a special people, zealous of good works.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

You know that He was revealed to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.
