If He sets His heart on man, if He gathers unto Himself His Spirit and His breath,
in whose hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind?

He is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against Him and prospered?
You hide Your face; they are troubled; You take away their breath; they die and return to their dust.
You return man to the dust and say, “Return, O sons of men.”
and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the life breath returns to God who gave it.
They shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the dungeon, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days they shall be punished.
