And Jeremiah composed a dirge for Josiah, and all the male and female singers speak of Josiah in their laments to this day; and they made them a statute in Israel; behold, they are written in the Laments.

Yes, as for that night, let it be barren! Let no joyful cry come into it!

Let its morning stars be dark; let it look for light, but have none; let it not see the rays of dawn,

“Can you draw out Leviathan with a hook or snare his tongue with a line which you let down?

No one is so fierce that he dares to stir him up. Who then is able to stand before Me?

When he raises up himself even the gods are afraid; because of his crashings they are beside themselves.

In that day the Lord with His fierce and great and strong sword shall punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, even Leviathan the twisted serpent; and He shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Hosts, the Lord: Wailing will be in all the squares, and in all the streets they will say, “Alas! Alas!” They shall call the farmer to mourning, and to wailing those skilled in lamentation.

saying: ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge to you, and you did not mourn.’

He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw the tumult, and those who wept and wailed loudly.
