When his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, “This is what your servant did to me,” he became enraged.

Then the king said to the woman, “Go to your house, and I will give orders concerning you.”

He was the guardian of Hadassah, that is Esther (who was his uncle’s daughter), because she had neither father nor mother. The young woman was lovely to look at and beautiful in form. When her father and mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter.

They turn away the needy; the poor of the earth are forced to hide.

Did I not weep for him who was in trouble? Was not my soul grieved for the poor?

A father of the fatherless and a protector of the widows is God in His holy habitation.

They judged the people at all times. They brought the difficult cases to Moses, but they judged every small matter themselves.

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.

The righteous consider the cause of the poor, but the wicked do not understand such knowledge.

And I will clothe him with your robe and tie him securely with your sash. And I will entrust him with your authority, and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.

Therefore be imitators of God as beloved children.

then you shall inquire, search out, and ask diligently. And behold, if it be true and certain that such an abomination has been among you,

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
