“Now put down a pledge for me with Yourself. Who is he who will shake hands with me?
Through this oath Jesus became the guarantor of a better covenant.
Like a crane or a swallow, so I twitter; I mourn as a dove; my eyes look wistfully upward. O Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me.
He who guarantees loans for a stranger will suffer, but he who hates pledging collateral is secure.
Guarantee the well-being of Your servant; let not the proud oppress me.
For your servant became surety for the boy to my father, saying, ‘If I fail to bring him to you, then I shall bear the blame to my father forever.’
I will be a surety for him. You may hold me personally responsible for him. If I fail to bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever.
Nor is there a mediator between us, who may lay his hand upon us both.
Be not one of those who shakes hands in a pledge, or of those who are collateral for loans.
Take the garment of him who has put up security for a stranger, and hold it as a pledge for a foreigner.
A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in pledge and guarantees the loan for his neighbor.
so shall your poverty come upon you like a thief, and your want like an armed man.
