Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.

For behold, I will bring a flood of waters on the earth to destroy all flesh, wherever there is the breath of life under heaven, and everything that is on the earth will die.

all the while my spirit is in me, and the breath of God is in my nostrils,

For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he may gain much, when God takes away his soul?

The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life.

You hide Your face; they are troubled; You take away their breath; they die and return to their dust.

You send forth Your Spirit; they are created, and You renew the face of the ground.

All this I took to heart, to examine all these matters, how the righteous and the wise and their deeds are in the hand of God. Whether it is love or hate, no person knows everything that will come before these people.

Thus says God the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread forth the earth and that which comes out of it, who gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk in it:

For I will not contend forever, nor will I always be angry; for the spirit would grow faint before Me, and the souls whom I have made.

but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine in them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know. And the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.

They fell on their faces and said, “O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, will one man sin and You will be angry with all the assembly?”

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Nor is He served by men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives all men life and breath and all things.

‘For in Him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’
