There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, fearing God and avoiding evil.

The sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am Almighty God. Walk before Me and be blameless.

To man He said: ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.’ ”

Is not your reverence your confidence? And the integrity of your ways your hope?

“Though I were perfect, I would not know myself; I would despise my life.

Moreover, you shall choose out of all the people capable men who fear God, men of truth, hating dishonest gain, and place these men over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

A wise man fears and departs from evil, but the fool throws off restraint and is careless.

He who walks in his righteousness fears the Lord, but he who is devious in his ways despises Him.

The highway of the upright departs from evil; he who guards his way preserves his soul.

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

The righteous man walks in his integrity; blessed are his children after him.

Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and perverse speech do I hate.

and all the foreign people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines (even Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod);

Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, you who dwell in the land of Uz! The cup shall also pass to you; you shall become drunk and strip yourself bare.

Even though these three men, Noah, Danel, and Job, were in it, they could deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, says the Lord God.

though Noah, Danel, and Job were in it, as I live, says the Lord God, they would deliver neither their sons nor their daughters. They would deliver only their own souls by their righteousness.

They were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly.

You must be blameless before the Lord your God.

Behold, we consider them blessed who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the purpose of the Lord, that the Lord is very gracious and merciful.

Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.
