Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, and let not the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;

Lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom’; God will subdue him, not man.

His scales are his pride, shut up tightly as with a seal.

He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord.

Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.

But You have rejected us and put us to shame, and you do not go out with our armies.

Trust not in oppression; put no vain hope in robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

For he says, “Are not my princes altogether kings?

Then they shall be dismayed and ashamed of Cush their hope and Egypt their boast.

For you have trusted in your wickedness; you have said, “No one sees me”; your wisdom and your knowledge have perverted you; and you have said in your heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.”

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and prudent in their own sight!

They shall teach no more every man his neighbor and every man his brother, saying, “Know the Lord,” for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord, for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

How do you say, “We are mighty and strong men for the war”?

For because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you will also be captured; and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity together with his priests and his officials.

Why do you glory in the valleys, your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter who trusts in her treasures, saying, “Who shall come against me?”

The land of Egypt shall become a desolation and waste. Then they shall know that I am the Lord. Because you said, “The Nile is mine, and I have made it,”

Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music to fall down and worship the image which I have made, very well. But if you do not worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is that god who can deliver you out of my hands?”

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and those who walk in pride He is able to abase.

He has told you, O man, what is good— and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them on the day of the Lord’s wrath. But the whole earth will be consumed by the fire of His jealousy, for He will make a sudden end of all those who dwell on the earth.

Claiming to be wise, they became fools.

Therefore, as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
