For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, “How devastated we are! We are greatly humiliated, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out.”

Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind. His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us, for we are ruined!

You will grope at noon, as the blind man gropes in darkness, and you will not prosper in your ways. You will only be oppressed and continually robbed, and no man will save you.

Get up and go, for this is not the resting place, because uncleanness ruins, and ruin sickens.

In that day they will take up a taunt against you, and they will wail a wailing lament, and say: “We are totally ruined! He diminishes the portion of my people; how He removes it from me! To a traitor He reassigns our fields!”

Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our homes to foreigners.

Destruction upon destruction is proclaimed, for the whole land is devastated. Suddenly are my tents devastated, and my curtains in a moment.

Is Israel a servant? Is he a homeborn slave? Why has he been plundered?

You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My decrees and do them, so that the land to where I am bringing you will not vomit you out.

lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you.

And the land has become defiled; therefore I have punished its iniquity, and the land has vomited out her inhabitants.

I will cast you out of My sight as I have cast out all your brothers, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

Do they provoke Me to anger? says the Lord. Do they not provoke themselves to the shame of their own faces?

Cut off your hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places, for the Lord has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.

Then the Lord said to me: Even though Moses and Samuel were to stand before Me, yet My heart would not be with this people. Cast them out of My sight and let them go!

Rise up, you women who are at ease, hear my voice; you careless daughters, give ear to my speech.

Now you, son of man, take up a lamentation over Tyre.
