Then I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of laughter and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become desolate.

Do not listen to them; serve the king of Babylon, and live. Why should this city be laid waste?

Thus says the Lord: Again there shall be heard in this place of which you say, “It is desolate, without man and without beast,” even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant, and without beast,

the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who shall say, “Give thanks to the Lord of Hosts, for the Lord is good; for His mercy endures forever,” and of those who bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord, for I will restore the fortunes of the land as at the first, says the Lord.

I looked, and behold, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by His fierce anger.

For thus says the Lord: The whole land shall be desolate. Yet I will not make a full end.

Therefore My fury and My anger was poured out and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are ruined and desolate, as it is this day.

The elders have left the city gate, the young men stopped their music.

I will cause the noise of your songs to cease. And the sound of your harps shall be heard no more.

Violence has risen up into a rod of wickedness; none of them shall remain, none of their people, none of their wealth, nor anything eminent among them.

I will also bring to an end all her joy, her annual feasts, her New Moons, and her Sabbaths, and all her solemn assemblies.

I will punish her for the days of the Baals, when she burned incense to them and adorned herself with her earrings and her jewelry, and pursued her lovers, but forgot Me, declares the Lord.

I will scatter you among the nations and I will draw out a sword after you. And your land shall be desolate and your cities a waste.

The earth will become desolate because of its inhabitants, from the fruit of their deeds.

The light of a lamp shall shine in you no more, and the voice of bridegroom and of bride shall be heard in you no more. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, and all nations were deceived by your sorcery.
