Cut off your hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places, for the Lord has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.

The Lord rejected all the seed of Israel, afflicted them, and gave them into the hand of plunderers until He had cast them out of His presence.

Then Job stood up, tore his robe, and shaved his head. He fell to the ground and worshipped.

In that day the Lord God of Hosts called you to weeping and mourning, and to tear your hair and wear sackcloth.

I have forsaken My house, I have abandoned My inheritance; I have given the dearly beloved of My soul into the hand of her enemies.

Have You utterly rejected Judah? Has Your soul loathed Zion? Why have You stricken us so that there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but there was nothing good; and for the time of healing, but behold, trouble!

Lift up your eyes to the high places, and see! Where have you not been ravished? In the roads you have sat for them as the Arabian in the wilderness. And you have polluted the land with your harlotry and with your wickedness.

A voice was heard upon the high places, the weeping and the supplications of the Israelites, because they have perverted their way, they have forgotten the Lord their God.

Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon has been cut off. O remnant of their valley, how long shall you gash yourself?

For every head will be bald and every beard clipped; upon all the hands will be gashes, and upon the loins sackcloth.

Men will call them rejected silver, because the Lord has rejected them.

For the mountains I will take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up so that no one can pass through them; nor can men hear the lowing of the cattle. Both the fowl of the heavens and the beast have fled; they are gone.

I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known. And I will send a sword after them until I have consumed them.

unless You have utterly rejected us, and are very angry with us.

Moreover take up a lamentation for the officials of Israel,

Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre and say to him, Thus says the Lord God: You had the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

Hear this word which I take up as a dirge against you, O house of Israel:

Make yourself bald and shave your head for the children of your delight; make yourself as bald as the eagle, for they will go from you into exile.

But He answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

A wicked and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” So He left them and departed.

Truly I say to you, all these things will come on this generation.

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers, who has warned you to escape from the wrath to come?

With many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”

They have acted corruptly to Him; they are not His children, but blemished; they are a perverse and crooked generation.
