And even though this house was majestic, it will lie desolate before all who pass by it, and they will say, ‘Why did the Lord do such a thing to this land and this house?’

Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldean’s excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

you shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say: How has the oppressor ceased! The golden city ceased!

How the city of praise has not been deserted, the city of My joy!

How the hammer of the whole earth has been cut asunder and broken! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations!

At the shout, “Babylon has been seized!” the earth is shaken, and the outcry is heard among the nations.

Babylon will become heaps, a dwelling place for jackals, an astonishment, and a hissing, without an inhabitant.

All the inhabitants of the coastlands shall be astonished at you, and their kings shall be sorely afraid; they are troubled in countenance.

Wherever the sons of men dwell, or the animals of the field, or the fowl of the heavens, He has given them into your hand and has made you ruler over them all. You are the head of gold.

It is you, O king, who have grown and become strong. Your greatness has grown and reaches to heaven, and your dominion to the ends of the earth.

The king spoke, saying, “Is this not Babylon the Great that I myself have built as a royal residence by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?”

You will become a horror, a proverb, and an object of ridicule among all nations where the Lord shall lead you.
