Then all the men who knew that their wives had burned incense to other gods and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people who lived in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying:

Before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house.

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations there was no king like him. He was loved by his God, who made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless, foreign women caused even him to sin.

Be assured, the wicked will not go unpunished, but the sons of the righteous will be delivered.

Why should you be beaten again, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

Even from the beginning I have declared it to you; before it came to pass I announced it to you, lest you should say, “My idol has done them, and my carved image and my molded image has commanded them.”

The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, who dwell at Migdol, and Tahpanhes, and Memphis, and in the country of Pathros, saying,

The women also said, “When we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her and pour out drink offerings to her without our husbands?”

Moreover Jeremiah said to all the people and to all the women, “Hear the word of the Lord, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt.

And I will turn the fortunes of Egypt and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their origin, and there they shall be a debased kingdom.

I will make Pathros desolate, and will set fire in Zoan, and will execute judgments in Thebes.

“Enter at the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who are going through it,

namely, of the gods of the people who are all around you, near you or far away from you, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth,
