eighty men came from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, having their beards shaven, and their clothes torn, and their bodies gashed, with offerings and incense in their hands to bring them to the house of the Lord.

Jacob came peacefully to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, on his way from Paddan Aram, and camped before the city.

The whole congregation of the Israelites assembled at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there. The land was subdued before them.

They buried the bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought out of Egypt, in Shechem in the part of the field that Jacob bought from the descendants of Hamor the father of Shechem for a hundred pieces of silver. It became an inheritance of the descendants of Joseph.

So they displayed Micah’s graven image that he had made, for the whole time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

Abimelech son of Jerub-Baal went to Shechem, to his mother’s brothers. He spoke to them and to the house of his mother’s father saying,

Thus it was yearly, when she went up to the house of the Lord, that she provoked her. So Hannah wept and did not eat.
