Jeremiah 37:7

Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Thus you shall say to the king of Judah who sent you to Me to inquire of Me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army which has come out to help you shall return to Egypt, to its own land.

But to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the Lord, thus shall you say to him, Thus says the Lord God of Israel with regard to the words you have heard:

The king of Egypt did not come again from his land, for the king of Babylon had taken over from the Brook of Egypt to the Euphrates River all that belonged to the king of Egypt.

No wisdom or understanding or counsel can stand against the Lord.

For the Egyptians shall help in vain and to no purpose. Therefore, I have called her, “Rahab who has been exterminated.”

Behold, you trust in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him.

And now what are you doing in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of the Nile? Or what are you doing in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?

Why do you go about so much to change your way? You also shall be ashamed of Egypt, as you were ashamed of Assyria.

Indeed, you shall go forth from him with your hands upon your head; for the Lord has rejected those in whom you trust, and you shall not prosper in them.

The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malkijah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying,

“Please inquire of the Lord for us. For Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is making war against us. Perhaps the Lord will deal with us according to all His wondrous works, so that the enemy withdraws from us.”

But Zedekiah the king sent Jehukal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “Please pray to the Lord our God for us.”

At that time Pharaoh’s army had come out of Egypt, and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard the report of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

Then the word of the Lord came to the prophet Jeremiah, saying:

In the days of her affliction and misery Jerusalem remembers all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old. When her people fell into the hand of the enemy, there was no one to help her. The adversaries saw her and mocked at her desolation.

Our eyes failed us, watching vainly for help; in our watchtowers we watched for a nation that could not save us.

Nor shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company help him in the war by casting up mounts and building forts to cut off many persons.

It shall be the confidence of the house of Israel no more, bringing to mind the iniquity of their having turned to Egypt. But they shall know that I am the Lord God.

Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt and will break his arms, both the strong and the broken. And I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.
