Jeremiah 31:40

Modern English Version

The whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields to the Kidron Valley, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, will be holy to the Lord. It will not be plucked up nor thrown down any more forever.

The whole land wept with a loud voice as all the people passed by. Now the king was crossing over the brook Kidron, and all of the people were crossing over on the road to the wilderness.

So they laid hands on her, and she came through the horses’ entrance into the king’s house. Then she was put to death there.

The altars that were on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord the king tore down and banished from there and threw their dust into the Kidron Valley.

He brought out the Asherah from the house of the Lord to the outside of Jerusalem, to the Kidron Valley. Then he burned it at the Kidron Valley, crushed it to dust, and threw its dust upon the graves of the people.

So they seized her, and she went to the entrance of the Horse Gate of the king’s palace, and they put her to death there.

Up to the Horse Gate the priests made repairs—each one across from his house.

We have thought on Your lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of Your temple.

Thus says your Lord, the Lord, and your God who pleads the cause of His people: Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of reeling, even the dregs of the cup of My fury; you will never drink it again.

Behold, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out and to pull down, to destroy and to throw down, to build and to plant.”

At one moment I may speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it.

Now therefore, thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning this city of which you say, “It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence”:

And they will spread them before the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped. They will not be gathered or be buried. They will be as dung upon the face of the earth.

And He led me around among them, and behold, there were very many in the open valley, and behold, they were very dry.

They shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, in which your fathers lived. And they shall dwell in it, they and their sons and their son’s sons forever. And My servant David shall be their prince forever.

Nor will I hide My face from them anymore, for I will have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel, says the Lord God.

The circumference shall be eighteen thousand cubits. And the name of the city from that day shall be, The Lord Is There.

Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who dwells in Zion, My holy mountain. And Jerusalem will be holy, and invaders will never again pass through her.

And people will live there, and she will never again be devoted for destruction. Jerusalem will reside in security.

On that day “holy to the lord” will be engraved on the bells of the horses. And the pots in the house of the Lord will be as the basins before the altar.

When Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples across the Kidron Valley. There was a garden which He and His disciples entered.
