As the partridge sits on eggs which it has not laid, so is he who gets riches, but not justly; it will forsake him in the midst of his days, and in the end he will be a fool.

A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.

The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor, the pursuit of death.

But your eyes and your heart are intent only on your covetousness and on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and violence.

Woe to him who builds his house with unrighteousness and his chambers with injustice, who uses his neighbor’s services without wages, and gives him nothing for his work,

He who increases his wealth by usury and extortion gathers it for him who has pity on the poor.

He who is greedy of unjust gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.

They have eyes full of adultery that cannot cease from sin. They entice unstable souls. Their hearts are trained in greed. They are cursed children!

who must be silenced, who subvert whole houses by teaching for dishonest gain things they ought not teach.

On that day I will punish all who step over the threshold, who fill their masters’ houses with violence and deceit.

He who hastens to be rich has an evil eye, and does not consider that poverty will come upon him.

Wealth gained by fraud will dwindle, but he who gathers by hand will increase it.

But You, O God, will cast the wicked down to the pit of destruction; bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days. But I will trust in You.

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This night your soul will be required of you. Then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their judgment, made long ago, does not linger, and their destruction does not slumber.

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful lusts, which drown men in ruin and destruction.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven against men. For you neither enter yourselves, nor allow those who are entering to go in.

Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against the perjurers, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who turn aside the stranger, and do not fear Me, says the Lord of Hosts.

I will send it out, says the Lord of Hosts, and it will enter the house of the thief, and the house of him who swears falsely by My name. It will remain in his house and consume it, with its timber and stones.”

Both hands are upon evil, to do it well. The prince and the judge request the bribe, the powerful asserts the craving of his very soul— they intertwine together.

The women of My people you drive out from their delightful homes; from their children you take My adornment forever.

They do not know how to do right, says the Lord, storing up violence and destruction in their fortresses.

A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor, but he who hates ill-gotten gain will prolong his days.

Will you let your eyes fly after that which is not? For such wealth certainly sprouts wings, flying away like an eagle to the heavens.

This is the way of those who are foolish, and of their posterity who approve their sayings.   Selah

For from the least of them even to the greatest of them, everyone is given to covetousness. And from the prophet even to the priest, everyone deals falsely.

Therefore I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who shall inherit them. For everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness; from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.

Nothing is left for him to eat; therefore his prosperity will not endure.
