Despair, fieldworkers; wail, vinedressers, for the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field has perished.

Consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly, assemble the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord.

Before them, peoples are tormented; every face turns pale.

I called for a drought on the land and the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on what the ground brings forth, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of your hands.

Therefore it happened that as I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear, says the Lord of Hosts.

The men that did not die were plagued with the tumors. And the cry of the city went up to heaven.

“Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin. And you will anoint him to be leader over My people Israel, that he may save My people out of the hand of the Philistines. For I have looked upon My people, because their cry has come unto Me.”
