Jeremiah 14:16

Modern English Version

The people to whom they prophesy will be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword. And they will have no one to bury them, not them, or their wives, or their sons, or their daughters, for I will pour out their wickedness upon them.

Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

Your sons have fainted; they lie at the head of all the streets as an antelope in a net; they are full of the fury of the Lord, the rebuke of your God.

For the leaders of this people cause them to err, and those who are led by them are destroyed.

They will die of deadly diseases. They will not be lamented, nor shall they be buried. But they will be as dung upon the face of the ground. And they will be consumed by the sword and by famine. And their carcasses will be food for the fowl of heaven and for the beasts of the earth.

Therefore, deliver up their children to the famine and pour out their blood by the power of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children and become widows and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.

You, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house will go into captivity; and you will come to Babylon, and there you will die and will be buried there, you and all your friends to whom you have prophesied lies.

For I have not sent them, says the Lord, yet they prophesy a lie in My name, so that I might drive you out and that you might perish, you and the prophets that prophesy to you.

Your way and your deeds have procured these things to you. This is your wickedness. How bitter it is! How it touches your heart!”

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority; and My people love to have it so. Yet what will you do in the end?

The corpses of this people shall be food for the fowl of the heaven and for the beasts of the earth; and no one will frighten them away.

At that time, says the Lord, they will bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his officials, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem out of their graves.

And they will spread them before the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped. They will not be gathered or be buried. They will be as dung upon the face of the earth.

Yet hear the word of the Lord, O you women, and let your ear receive the word of His mouth; and teach your daughters wailing, and everyone her neighbor a lamentation.

Speak, Thus says the Lord: “The carcasses of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the sheaf after the harvester, and no one shall gather them.”

They shall separate men who continually pass through the land to bury the travelers, even those who remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it. After the end of seven months they shall search.

“Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Your wife will be a prostitute in the city, your sons and daughters will fall by the sword, and your land will be divided by measuring line; you yourself will die in an unclean land; and Israel will surely go into exile away from its land.’ ”

Leave them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the ditch.”

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go, pour out the bowls of the wrath of God on the earth.”
