Jeremiah 12:1

Righteous are You, O  Lord, that I plead with You. Indeed, let me talk with You about matters of justice. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are all those happy who deal very treacherously?

Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be treated like the wicked; far be it from You. Should not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

O  Lord God of Israel, You are righteous, for we who escaped exile yet remain to this very day. Behold, we stand before You in our guilt, for we should not stand before You because of this.”

You are righteous for everything that has come upon us! You have acted faithfully while we have done wickedly.

The tents of robbers are at peace, and those who provoke God are secure, into whose hand they bring their own god.

Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.

Men groan from outside the city, and the soul of the wounded cries out; yet God does not charge them with wrong.

He gives them security, and they rely on it; yet His eyes are on their ways.

His roots are wrapped around the rock heap, and he sees the place of stones.

Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yes, our God is merciful.

Righteous are You, O  Lord, and upright are Your judgments.

I know, O  Lord, that Your judgments are right, and that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.

The Lord is righteous in all His ways and merciful in all His works.

Fret not because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.

I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a luxuriant tree.

Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified when you speak, and blameless when You pass judgment.

Behold, You desire truth in the inward being, and in my secret heart You will teach me wisdom.

that though the wicked spring up like grass and though all the workers of iniquity flourish, they will be destroyed forever:

For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.

There is another vanity that takes place on earth: there are righteous people who are treated according to the deeds of the wicked, and there are wicked people who are treated according to the deeds of the righteous. I observed that this also is vanity.

Present your case, says the Lord. Bring forth your arguments, says the King of Jacob.

You have not heard, you have not known, indeed, from long ago your ear has not been open. For I knew that you would deal very treacherously, and that from birth you have been called a rebel.

But, O  Lord of Hosts, who judges righteously, who tries the feelings and the heart, let me see Your vengeance on them, for to You I have revealed my cause.

For even your brothers and the household of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you. Indeed, they have cried aloud after you. Do not believe them though they speak fair words to you.

Surely as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, so you have dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel, says the Lord.

I said after she had done all these things, “Turn to Me.” But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

Now when I had delivered the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to the Lord, saying:

For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against Me, says the Lord.

Oh, that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men, that I might leave my people and go from them! For they all are adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.

The Lord is in the right, for I have rebelled against His commandment. Hear now, all peoples, and see my sorrow; my virgins and my young men have gone into captivity.

Yet you say, “The way of the Lord is not right.” Hear now, O house of Israel. Is not My way right? Are not your ways not right?

Therefore, the Lord has kept the disaster in store and brought it upon us. For the Lord our God is righteous in all His works which He does, but we have not obeyed His voice.

“O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us shame of face, as it is this day, to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to all Israel, who are near and who are far off, through all the countries wherever You have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against You.

But like men they have transgressed the covenant. There they dealt faithlessly with Me.

Therefore the law is powerless, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; therefore injustice proceeds.

The Lord is righteous in her midst; He does no unrighteousness. Every morning He brings His justice to light; He does not fail, but the unjust knows no shame.

You have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet you say, “How have we wearied Him?” When you say, “Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and He delights in them,” or, “Where is the God of justice?”

And now we call the proud blessed, for those who do wickedness are built up; they even test God and escape.”

He is the rock; His work is perfect; for all His ways are just. He is a God of faithfulness and without injustice; righteous and upright is He.
