The passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: “He was led as a sheep to slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so He opened not His mouth.

Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul shall have no pleasure in him.”

But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you and drag you before the judgment seats?

You lust and do not have, so you kill. You desire to have and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have, because you do not ask.

And “If the righteous one is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?”
