Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of Hosts who dwells in Mount Zion.

When Esau looked up and saw the women and the children, he said, “Who are those with you?” Jacob said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”

For David said, “The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever.

Their descendants will serve Him; the next generation will be told about the Lord;

I have become a marvel to many, for You are my strong refuge.

Sing praises to the Lord who dwells in Zion; declare His deeds among the people.

He who avenges deaths remembers them; He does not forget the cry of the humble.

Cry out and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion. For great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst.

What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the Lord has founded Zion, and the poor of His people shall trust in it.

The Lord said, “Even as My servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder against Egypt and Cush,

Then the moon shall be humiliated and the sun ashamed, when the Lord of Hosts reigns in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and His glory shall be before His elders.

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; He has put him to grief. If he made himself as an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring, he shall prolong his days, and the good pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

For before the child shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land that you dread shall be forsaken of both her kings.

Then the Lord said to Isaiah: Go out now to meet Ahaz, you, and Shear-Jashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field,

So I went in to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then the Lord said to me, Call his name Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.

“This will be a sign to you, says the Lord, that I will punish you in this place so that you may know that My words shall surely stand against you for disaster.

In their sight you shall bear it on your shoulders and carry it out in the twilight. You shall cover your face so that you cannot see the land, for I have set you as a sign to the house of Israel.

And I will set My face against that man and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of My people. And you shall know that I am the Lord.

Moreover take for yourself an iron plate and set it up for a wall of iron between you and the city. And set your face against it so that it is besieged, and lay siege against it. This shall be a sign to the house of Israel.

“Hear this, O Joshua the high priest, you and your friends sitting before you, for these men are a sign: Behold, I will bring My servant, the Branch.

Thus says the Lord: I have returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem will be called a city of faithfulness and the mountain of the Lord of Hosts, the holy mountain.

And all those who heard it marveled at what the shepherds told them.

Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined to cause the fall and rising of many in Israel and to be a sign which will be spoken against,

They will be a perpetual sign and wonder in regard to you and your descendants,

In part you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and afflictions. And in part you became companions of those who were so abused.

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels;
