He who kills a bull is as if he kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as if he breaks a dog’s neck; he who offers a grain offering, as if he offers swine’s blood; he who burns incense, as if he blesses an idol. They have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations;

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it with evil intent!

No one considers in his heart, nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say, “I have burned part of it in the fire; I also have baked bread on the coals; I have roasted meat and eaten it; and shall I make the rest into an abomination? Shall I fall down to a block of wood?”

And he shall bring it to the sons of Aaron, the priests, and he shall scoop out a handful of the flour and its oil, along with all its frankincense. And the priest shall burn this memorial portion on the altar, a food offering made by fire, which is a pleasing aroma for the Lord.

Then Haggai said, So it is with this people, and so it is with this nation before Me, says the Lord, and so with every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.

The pig is unclean to you because it divides the hoof, yet it does not chew the cud. You must not eat of their flesh or touch their dead carcass.

You must never bring the wage of a prostitute or the wage of a dog into the house of the Lord your God for any vow, for both of these are abominations to the Lord your God.

Go and cry out to the gods that you have chosen. Let them save you in your time of distress.”

In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

They were choosing new gods, and warfare was at the city gates, but not a shield or spear was to be seen among forty thousand in Israel.
