We all roar like bears and mourn sadly like doves; we look for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far from us.

Those who pursue wickedness draw near; they are far from Your law.

Salvation is far from the wicked, for they seek not Your statutes.

I am feeble and severely broken; I groan because of the disquietness of my heart.

Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint, and I murmur,

Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that glory may dwell in our land.

Like a crane or a swallow, so I twitter; I mourn as a dove; my eyes look wistfully upward. O  Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

Your sons have fainted; they lie at the head of all the streets as an antelope in a net; they are full of the fury of the Lord, the rebuke of your God.

Justice is turned backward, and righteousness stands far off; for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.

The way of peace they do not know, and there is no justice in their ways; they have made their paths crooked; whoever walks in them does not know peace.

Therefore, justice is far from us, and righteousness does not overtake us; we hope for light, and behold, darkness, and for brightness, but we walk in gloom.

We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, but behold, terror!

Oh, that my head were waters and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

My soul is bereft of peace; I have forgotten prosperity.

Even when their survivors escape, they shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one over his iniquity.

They do not cry to Me with their heart when they howl on their beds. They gather together for grain and wine, they rebel against Me.

It is decreed: She is uncovered and led away captive; her handmaidens shall lead her as with the voice of doves, beating their chests.

Nineveh is like a pool whose waters run away. “Halt! Halt!” they cry, but no one turns back.
