Isaiah 54:1

Modern English Version

Sing, O barren, you who did not bear a child. Break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who did not travail with child. For more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, says the Lord.

He gives the barren woman a home, to be a joyful mother of children. Praise the Lord!

Cry out and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion. For great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst.

They lift up their voices; they sing for the majesty of the Lord; they cry aloud from the west.

For your waste and your desolate places, and the land of your destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and those who swallowed you up shall be far away.

The children whom you shall have, after you have lost the others, shall say again in your ears, “The place is too cramped for me; make room for me that I may dwell here.”

You shall no more be termed Forsaken, nor shall your land be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My Delight Is In Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you, and your land shall be married.

Before she was in labor, she gave birth; before her pain came, she delivered a son.

Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! And cry aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; he is righteous and able to deliver, he is humble and riding on a donkey, a colt, the offspring of a donkey.

For it is written: “Rejoice, barren woman who does not bear; break forth and shout, you who have no labor pains! For the desolate has many more children than she who has a husband.”

Those that were full have hired out themselves for bread, and those that were hungry ceased to hunger. Even the barren has borne seven, and she that has many children wastes away.
