Three friends of Job heard about all this evil that had come upon him, and each one came from his own place: Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They had agreed together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

Then all of his brothers, and all his sisters, and all of those who had been of acquaintance before came to Job, and they ate bread with him in his house, and they consoled him and comforted him for all the adversity that the Lord had brought upon him. Every man also gave him a piece of money and an earring of gold.

Reproach has broken my heart, and I am in despair. I looked for pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.

Again I turned and observed all types of oppression that are done under the sun: Behold, the tears of the oppressed, and no one was there to comfort them. There was force from the hand of the oppressors, and no one was there to comfort them.

The firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill your root with famine, and he shall slay your remnant.

Therefore, I say, “Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; do not try to comfort me because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.”

but these two things shall come to you in a moment, in one day, the loss of children and widowhood. They shall come upon you in their fullness because of the multitude of your sorceries and for the great abundance of your enchantments.

O afflicted one, tossed with tempest and not comforted, behold, I will lay your stones with fair colors and lay your foundations with sapphires.

Violence shall no more be heard in your land, nor devastation or destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.

to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn,

They shall pass through the land hard-pressed and hungry; when they are hungry, they shall be furious and curse their king and their God as they look upward.

They shall snatch on the right hand, but still be hungry; and they shall eat on the left hand, and shall not be satisfied; every man shall eat the flesh of his own arm.

For who shall have pity on you, O Jerusalem? Or who shall bemoan you? Or who shall go aside to ask how you are doing?

I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence among them until they are consumed from off the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.

Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which was brought upon me, which the Lord has inflicted on the day of His fierce anger.

Her uncleanness is in her skirts; she took no thought of her future; therefore her fall is astounding; she has no comforter. “O  Lord, look upon my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed!”

Panic and snare have come upon us, desolation and destruction.

If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land, and they destroy it so that it becomes desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts,

For thus says the Lord God: How much more when I send My four sore judgments on Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the wild beasts, and the pestilence, to cut off man and beast from it.

When they had finished devouring the foliage of the land, I said, “O Lord God, please forgive. How can Jacob survive? For he is small.”

All who look at you will flee from you, and say, “Nineveh is devastated! Who will lament for her?” Where shall I seek comforters for you?

Therefore we were comforted in your comfort. Yes, and we were exceedingly the more joyful for the sake of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.
