Woe to him who strives with his maker, the potsherd with the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to the potter, “What are you making?” Or the thing you are making say, “He has no hands”?

Remember, I pray, that You have made me as the clay. And would You return me to dust?

Why do you strive against Him? For He does not give an accounting for any of His words.

“Will he who argues with the Almighty instruct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.”

Yes, He takes away; who can hinder Him? Who will say to Him, ‘What are You doing?’

He is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against Him and prospered?

No wisdom or understanding or counsel can stand against the Lord.

What has already been has been named and determined, and it is already designated what will happen to a person; he cannot contend with Him who is stronger than he.

Shall the axe boast itself against him who hews with it? Or shall the saw magnify itself against him who wields it? That is as if the rod wields itself against those who lift it up, or as if the staff should lift itself up as if it were not wood.

Surely you turn things upside down! Shall the potter be esteemed as the potter’s clay? Shall what is made say to its maker, “He did not make me”? Or shall the thing formed say to him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?

Woe to him who says to his father, “What are you begetting?” Or to the woman, “To what are you giving birth?”

There is no one who calls on Your name, who stirs up himself to take hold of You; for You have hidden Your face from us and have consumed us because of our iniquities.

But now, O  Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You are our potter; and we all are the work of Your hand.

O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter? says the Lord. Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.

You shall say to Jehoiakim king of Judah: Thus says the Lord: You have burned this book, saying, Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cause man and beast to cease from here?

I have laid a snare for you, and you were also caught, O Babylon, and you were not aware. You have been found, and also caught, because you have strived against the Lord.

And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. And no one can stay His hand or say to Him, “What have You done?”

Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?
