“Have you not heard? Long ago I arranged it, in ancient times I formed it; now I bring it to pass, that you will turn impregnable cities into desolate heaps of stones.
He said to her, “You talk like one of the foolish women talks. Will we indeed accept the good from God but not accept the adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
When He gives quietness, who then can make trouble? And when He hides His face, who then can behold Him, whether it is done against a nation or against a man only?
So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel, and there was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night. Therefore, the one did not come near the other the entire night.
Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster and will not call back His words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers and against the help of those who work iniquity.
I will bring the blind by a way that they did not know; I will lead them in paths that they have not known. I will make darkness light before them and crooked things straight. These things I will do for them and not forsake them.
Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, and He who formed you from the womb: I am the Lord who makes all things, who stretches out the heavens alone, who spreads abroad the earth by Myself,
Therefore, evil shall come upon you, which you shall not know from where it rises. And disaster shall fall upon you, for which you shall not be able to atone. And desolation shall come upon you suddenly, which you shall not know.
Give glory to the Lord your God, before He causes darkness and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and while you look for light, He turns it into the shadow of death and makes it gross darkness.
Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for a light by day and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea so that the waves roar, the Lord of Hosts is His name:
a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness. Like blackness spreading over the mountain, a great and mighty army comes, such as was never before, and will never be again, even through the years of all generations.
The One who forms the mountains and creates the wind, who reveals His thoughts to man, who turns the darkness into dawn and strides on the heights of the earth — the Lord, the God of Hosts, is His name.
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Likewise, the angels who did not keep to their first domain, but forsook their own dwelling, He has kept in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day.
