For the day of the Lord of Hosts shall be upon everything that is proud and lofty, and upon everything that is lifted up, and it shall be brought low;

Surely the day is coming, burning like an oven; all the proud, yes, all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming will burn them up, says the Lord of Hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.

The Lord of Hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory and to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.

For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.

But He gives more grace. For this reason it says: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

For you know perfectly that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

For he who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreaded day of the Lord.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and those who walk in pride He is able to abase.

You have not gone up into the gaps, nor did you build up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle on the day of the Lord.

For this is the day of the Lord God of Hosts, a day of vengeance, so that He may avenge Himself of His adversaries. And the sword will devour; and it will be satiated and made drunk with their blood; for the Lord God of Hosts has a slaughter in the north country by the Euphrates River.

In that day the Lord shall punish the host of heaven on high and the kings of the earth on the earth.

The earth mourns and fades away, the world languishes and fades away, the haughty people of the earth languish.

Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate, and He shall destroy its sinners out of it.

Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand! It shall come as destruction from the Almighty.

You deliver a humble people; but Your eyes are upon the exalted to bring them down.

“Since times of judgment are not kept by the Almighty, why do they who know Him not see His days?

Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I involve myself in great matters, nor in things too profound for me.

I will lay waste mountains and hills and dry up all their vegetation, and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.

to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn,

Alas! for that day is great, so that no one is like it; it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.

Therefore, thus says the Lord: Behold, I am devising disaster against this family, from which you cannot remove your necks; and you will not walk haughtily, for it will be a time of calamity.

Then I will cut off the cities of your land, and I will overthrow your strongholds;

a day of trumpet and alarms against the fortified cities and against the high towers.

On that day you will not be ashamed for all your deeds by which you have transgressed against Me; for then I will remove from your midst those who rejoice in your pride, and you will no longer be haughty in My holy mountain.

For You will light my lamp; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.

The Lord laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming.

Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render to the proud what they deserve.

The common man shall be brought down, and the great man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled.

When the Lord has performed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, He will say, “I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria and the glory of his high looks.”

Behold, the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, shall lop the bough with terror; and the tall ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.

I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the ruthless.

Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the sides of the pit.

He brings the princes to nothing; He makes the judges of the earth meaningless.

My inheritance is to Me as a speckled vulture; the vultures all around are against her. Come, assemble all the beasts of the field, bring them to devour.

Thus says the Lord: After this manner I will destroy the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.

Behold, I am against you, O most proud, says the Lord God of Hosts, for your day has come, the time when I will punish you.
