Rejoice not, O Philistia, all of you, because the rod that struck you is broken; for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a viper, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

He struck the Philistines as far as Gaza and its territory, from watchtower to fortified city.

He went out to make war with the Philistines, and he broke through the walls at Gath and Jabneh and Ashdod. Then he built cities in Ashdod and among the Philistines.

And the Philistines made raids on the cities of the lowlands of the Shephelah and the Negev of Judah. And they captured Beth-shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soko and its villages, Timnah and its villages, and Gimzo and its villages; and they settled there.

Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be joyful when he stumbles,

But they shall swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines towards the west; they shall plunder the sons of the east together; they shall lay their hand on Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites shall obey them.

The nursing child shall play by the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.

As you rejoiced at the inheritance of the house of Israel because it was desolate, so I will do to you. You shall be a desolation, O Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.

Do not rejoice, O Israel! Do not exult like the peoples, for you have played the whore departing from your God. You have loved a prostitute’s wages on every threshing floor.

Also, what are you to Me, Tyre and Sidon and all the regions of Philistia? Are you repaying Me for something? If you are repaying Me, I will return your payment swiftly and speedily on your head.

Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they carried away into exile an entire deportation, to deliver them up to Edom.

From Ashdod I will cut off the one enthroned and from Ashkelon the one who holds the scepter. I will turn My hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines will perish, says the Lord God.

But you should not have gloated on the day of your brother, on the day of his misfortune; you should not have rejoiced over the Judahites on the day of their destruction; you should not have boasted on the day of distress.

Do not rejoice over me, my enemy! Although I have fallen, I will rise; although I dwell in darkness, the Lord is my light.

For Gaza will be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation; Ashdod will be driven out at noon, and Ekron will be uprooted.

Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, the nation of Kerethites! The word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines: I will destroy you, so that there will be no inhabitant.

On that day you will not be ashamed for all your deeds by which you have transgressed against Me; for then I will remove from your midst those who rejoice in your pride, and you will no longer be haughty in My holy mountain.

Ashkelon will observe this and fear; Gaza as well and will writhe in anguish; even Ekron, her hope will be confounded. The king of Gaza will perish, and no one will inhabit Ashkelon.

The Lord said to Moses, “Make a poisonous serpent, and put it on a pole, and it will be, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, will live.”
