By your messengers you have taunted the Lord, and have said, ‘With my many chariots I have gone up the height of the mountains, to farthest reaches of Lebanon, and I will cut down its tallest cedars, its choicest junipers. I will enter its most remote canopies of night, its dense forest.
Because you have raged against Me, and your self-assuredness has come up to My ears, I will put My hook in your nose and My bridle on your lips, and I will turn you back on the way by which you came.
Through your servants you have reproached the Lord and have said, ‘With my many chariots I have come up to the heights of the mountains, to the remotest parts of Lebanon; and I cut down its tall cedars, and its choice fir trees; and I will go to its highest peak, its thickest forest.
For wickedness burns as a fire; it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall ignite in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like rising smoke.
But I will punish you according to the fruit of your deeds, says the Lord, and I will kindle a fire in the forest, and it will devour all things around it.
On that day I will set Judah like a fiery pot among wood and as a flaming torch among cut grain. And they will devour to the right and left all the surrounding peoples, while Jerusalem will still reside in her place, the place of Jerusalem.
