For behold, they are gone because of destruction. Egypt will gather them, and Memphis will bury them. Nettles will possess their pleasant things of silver, and thorns will be in their tents.

In that day every place where there were one thousand vines, worth one thousand shekels of silver, shall become briers and thorns.

Also the men of Memphis and Tahpanhes have shaved the crown of your head.

Now therefore certainly know that you will die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, in the place wherever you desire to go and to sojourn.”

The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, who dwell at Migdol, and Tahpanhes, and Memphis, and in the country of Pathros, saying,

I will take the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they all will be consumed and fall in the land of Egypt. They will even be consumed by the sword and by the famine. They will die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine; and they will be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

For I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem; by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.

Declare in Egypt and proclaim in Migdol, and pronounce in Memphis and in Tahpanhes; say, “Stand fast and prepare yourself, for the sword will devour those about you.”

O daughter dwelling in Egypt, prepare your baggage for captivity, for Memphis will become desolate, it will even be burned down without an inhabitant.

Thus says the Lord God: I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause their images to cease from Memphis; and no more shall there be a prince of the land of Egypt. And I will put a fear in the land of Egypt.

I will set fire in Egypt; Pelusium shall have great pain, and Thebes shall be rent asunder, and Memphis shall have distresses daily.

The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. Thorn and thistle will grow on their altars. They will say to the mountains, Cover us, and to the hills, Fall on us.

They will come trembling like a bird out of Egypt and like a dove from the land of Assyria. And I will let them dwell in their houses, says the Lord.

Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, and make a wall, so that she will not find her paths.

Ephraim is like a dove, silly and without sense; they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.

Woe to them, for they have fled from Me! Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against Me! Though I would redeem them, yet they speak lies against Me.

They return, but not to the Most High. They are like a loose bow. Their princes will fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue. This will be their derision in the land of Egypt.

For the sacrifices of My offerings, they sacrifice flesh and eat it; but the Lord does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins. They will return to Egypt.

They will not dwell in the land of the Lord; but Ephraim will return to Egypt, and they will eat unclean things in Assyria.

I will scatter you among the nations and I will draw out a sword after you. And your land shall be desolate and your cities a waste.

Wail, you inhabitants of the market district! For all the merchants are cut down; all those who weigh out silver are cut off.

When Israel’s fighting men saw that they were in a strait (for the people were distressed), then the people hid themselves in caves, in hollows, among rocks, and in cellars and cisterns.
