“Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth—” let Israel now say —

‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I lifted you up on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.

You shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord: Israel is My son, even My firstborn.

So I say to you, “Let My son go, that he may serve Me. And if you refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay your firstborn son.” ’ ”

Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honorable, and I have loved you; therefore, I will give men for you, and people for your life.

I have forsaken My house, I have abandoned My inheritance; I have given the dearly beloved of My soul into the hand of her enemies.

Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says the Lord: I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your espousals, when you followed Me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

Besides all your abominations and your harlotries you have not remembered the days of your youth when you were naked and bare and were polluted in your blood.

When I passed by you and saw you polluted in your own blood, I said to you when you were in your blood, “Live!” Indeed, I said to you when you were in your blood, “Live!”

So will it be done to you, O Bethel, because of your great wickedness. At dawn the king of Israel will be utterly cut off.

By a prophet the Lord brought Israel up from Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.

I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt. I will again make you to dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed feast.

Yet I am the Lord your God ever since the land of Egypt. You know no God but Me, and there is no savior besides Me.

From there, I will give her vineyards to her, and the Valley of Achor as a door of hope. She will respond there as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

I have loved you, says the Lord. But you say, “How have You loved us?” Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? says the Lord. Yet I have loved Jacob;

and remained there until the death of Herod, to fulfill what the Lord had spoken through the prophet, “Out of Egypt I have called My Son.”

Surely, He loved the people; all His holy ones are in Your hand, and they sit down at Your feet; everyone receives Your words.

The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all the peoples.
